FAQ

What length is an automotive mechanic apprenticeship?

It takes approximately three years to complete an automotive mechanic apprenticeship. This includes two year at school as well as two years as an apprenticeship. The first year of training is spent in the trade. This includes theory and practical skills as well as safety procedures. You'll also learn the safe and efficient use of tools during this first year. After the completion of the first year, you will spend another year on the job training. Here you'll gain valuable experience in different trades. These are also the times you can attend formal courses.

The last year of your program will be spent earning qualifications and becoming certified. These include NVQs (National Vocational Qualifications), which are awarded after passing exams covering specific topics within the industry. There are also HNCs (Higher National Certificates), which cover general subjects like management, business administration, customer service, and more. Finally, there are City & Guilds certificates that are offered for those who wish to become qualified in certain trades.

Is it really worth becoming a mechanic.

The answer to that question depends on what your life purpose is. If you're looking for money, then it's true. But, if there are meaning and purpose in your life, then it's not.

You don't need to be a mechanic if you don't know how. It will not make you rich. You won't become famous. And it's unlikely to change your life.

You'd have to spend years learning how things work. You would still need to hire someone to fix your car if it breaks down. Most people won't bother to do it. They find something else to do.

In conclusion, if money is your main goal, you should go ahead. If you are looking for a fulfilling life, however, then stay clear of the mechanics' industry.

What can I do to fix my car as an hobby?

You might be interested in cars as a hobby. You could learn how to repair them, buy parts for them, sell them or just enjoy them. It would make a great pastime if you're looking for something different to do.

It's difficult to make this a fulltime job. This requires dedication and hard work. You'll also need to invest a lot.

You may not be able to have an emotional connection with cars unless there is a valid reason.

How To

How to Become an Auto Technician

An automotive technician is responsible for vehicle maintenance and repair. He/she can be found at auto shops, garages and service centers. He/she repairs cars, trucks, motorbikes and snowmobiles for customers. An automotive technician must be able to diagnose problems and make repairs quickly, safely, accurately, and efficiently.

To become an automotive technician, a person must first earn an associate's degree from a vocational college. After completing the program, he/she must take the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence certification exam. ASE stands for American Society of Mechanical Engineers. The ASE certification test consists two sections. One section tests knowledge of mechanical components, while the other section tests skills in practical areas. To take the test, you must visit one of the approved testing locations. These testing sites can be found online and through your local dealer.

After passing the test, a candidate must pass an examination in order to be licensed as an automotive technician. This process can vary depending on where the applicant lives. For example, some states require candidates to attend a training course, while others allow them to study independently. Some states allow technicians to become licensed right away after receiving their license. While others wait until they have had at least six years of experience as an automotive technician.

A person must apply to an auto dealership in order to get started as an automobile technician. Most employees who are hired start as apprentices. Apprenticeship programs last about three years. This is when a student can learn how to do basic repairs such as changing oil, adjusting brakes and replacing tires. Some students will learn advanced repair techniques, such as changing shocks, installing air filters, and replacing engines. Classes are offered by most schools during regular business hours. Some schools also offer evening classes when needed.

When a student has completed his/her apprenticeship, they become a journeyman. Journeymen can spend up to five years learning how major systems work, including transmissions, differentials. They also learn how to adjust steering gear and suspensions. You will also learn how to repair complicated electrical components, as well as how to remanufacture engines and rebuild transmissions. Many employers prefer to hire Journeymen because they understand the job well.

A candidate who passes all the necessary exams and gets a license might be interested in opening his/her own business. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics (2010), almost 1.7million automotive mechanic jobs were on the market. That number was expected to grow by 18 percent from 2009 to 2020. If a candidate decides to open his/her own shop, he/she should prepare to invest many thousands of dollars in equipment and supplies.

Many factors affect the automotive technician's salary, including location, education, experience, and employer type. On average, an unemployed person could earn $20,000 annually. Someone with only a high school diploma could earn around $21,000 per year. Those with an associate's degree earned approximately $24,000 per year. A technician with a bachelor's degree earned approximately $27,000 annually. The average annual salary for those with master's degrees was $32,000. Salaries are increasing so that a professional earning less than $30,000 could expect to make $40,000 in a few years.
