It is similar to BMW's iDrive

Mini connected looks similar to BMW’s renowned iDrive informationtainment system. The iDrive system debuted on BMW's flagship 7 Series in 2001 and has since been added to every model. The system is also available in Rolls-Royce and Mini. The system operates by using a rotary wheel that is located near the gear lever. It allows the driver navigate through many options. It can also be controlled by voice or gesture.

BMW's iDrive opened the door to new digital services. BMW Online was integrated into the car’s cockpit in 2000. The Google search engine was then integrated into iDrive Professional Evo NBT Evo 2007. FAQ

What is the length of an apprenticeship as an automotive mechanic?

It takes approximately three years to complete an automotive mechanic apprenticeship. This includes two years at school and two years working as an apprentice. The first year is dedicated to learning the theory and practical skills of the trade. During this time, you'll also learn how to use tools safely and efficiently. After completing the first year, you'll then spend another year on-the-job training where you'll gain experience in different areas of the trade. These years will offer you the opportunity to attend formal classes.

The last year of your program will be spent earning qualifications and becoming certified. These include NVQs or National Vocational Qualifications. These are earned after passing exams that cover specific topics in the industry. There are also HNCs (Higher National Certificates), which cover general subjects like management, business administration, customer service, and more. Finally, there are City & Guilds certificates that are offered for those who wish to become qualified in certain trades.

What is the length of an automotive training course?

An automotive course is three years long.

The first year focuses on theory and learning about cars. The second year will be spent in practical training. Here you will learn how fix engines, drive and other mechanic jobs. You will spend the final year working in a local garage to gain real-world experience.

Is it hard to get a job working as an auto mechanic?

It is possible. Garages often advertise their jobs online and people just apply because it seems fun. To get your foot in front of the door, try applying for a few positions to see if any accept student applications. Alternatively, you could ask friends and family if they know anyone who works in the industry. They may be happy to recommend someone.

What jobs are available for car mechanics?

There are three major areas of employment that car mechanics work in:

  • Automotive repair shops
  • Dealerships
  • Independent garages

Automotive repair shops

This is the place most people begin to consider becoming mechanics. It's the easiest way for most people to get started. You can either work in a shop run by someone else, or start your business.

If you plan to work in a shop, you must apply to join the union. Once you have been accepted into the Union, you'll be given training by the union.

Once the training is completed, you can start working.

If you decide to open your own garage, you'll need to register with the government. After you register, you will be required to meet specific standards.

After you have registered, you will be issued a license to operate your garage.

You can sell spare parts or do minor repairs with your license. It will not allow you to repair major engine problems.

In addition to selling spare parts, you'll also be expected to offer advice and guidance to customers.

Dealership jobs

Most dealerships employ mechanics that specialize in one aspect of the vehicle. For example, they might only deal with brakes or only replace tires.

However, dealerships may also employ general mechanics who are able to handle all aspects related to car repairs.

Some positions require that applicants complete training before they can be allowed to work. This means employers can choose which candidates are best suited for their role.

Some dealerships recruit students right out of school. These graduates already know the basics of mechanical engineering and therefore have no problem learning about cars.

Independent garages

Independent garages do not belong to any dealership. Instead, they focus on high-quality customer service.

Independent garages can pay higher wages because they aren't associated with any company. This makes them generally more well-paid than jobs at dealerships.

However, independent garages do not necessarily offer better workplaces. Many business owners prefer to manage their own businesses rather than delegating responsibility to others.

You may find yourself working for long hours and not having control over the day.

Also, expect to make lower wages than if your job was at a dealership.

There are many jobs that can be switched between. Ask your employer if you would like to work as a mechanic at a dealership.

Alternativly, you can apply directly to the garage owner if you are interested in working at an independent garage.

The bad news is that finding a new job isn't always easy. There are many factors that affect how much you make.

For example, the type of vehicle you repair and whether you charge extra for labor.

Can I work as an auto mechanic without a degree? Can I study part time?

While a degree is not required, it does help. Employers prefer candidates who have completed a full degree. It shows that you've put the effort in and have done everything possible to succeed.

You can still study while working, however. Some universities let students complete their coursework in the summer and then continue their studies during the school year. Others let students take classes part-time throughout the year.

How To

How to properly diagnose your vehicle for repair

The symptoms of your vehicle are the first thing you need to look at in order to determine whether it is in dire need of repairs. Follow these steps to properly diagnose your vehicle.

  1. Check engine lights. Make sure to check all dashboard indicators like the engine light indicator (oil pressure gauge), the battery indicator (battery light indicator), and the RPM indicator (rpm gauge). You may have a problem with your vehicle if any of the indicators are flashing for more than a few days.
  2. Take a look at the treads. Tires that are worn can cause issues with handling and braking. The treads of the wheels should be inspected as well. They should be smooth and clean. To do this, remove the wheels and take them out. You can check the tread wear with a flashlight.
  3. Monitor the level and consistency of your brake fluid. You should always keep track of the amount of brake fluid in your vehicle. This will ensure your brakes function properly. Low brake fluid levels could cause your brakes to fail when you apply pressure.
  4. Make sure to test the suspension system. Most vehicles have a suspension system that absorbs shocks and vibrations. This suspension system provides greater control and smoother acceleration and deceleration. If your vehicle has a suspension problem, it might feel wobbly or shake uncontrollably. To test whether your vehicle has a suspension issue, try putting weight on the front or rear axle and observe the movement.
  5. Examine the steering wheel. Steering columns are used to connect the steering wheel to the rest of the vehicle's components. Accidents often damage steering columns. It is recommended to replace any steering column that feels loose, or shakey.
  6. Observe the exhaust pipe. The exhaust pipe helps move gases from a combustion chamber into the atmosphere. If your exhaust pipe leaks or cracks, it will allow harmful fumes into your cabin. Also, if your tailpipe is bent, you should fix it immediately.
  7. Check under the hood. Check under your hood for any unusual or missing components. There could be fluid leaking from your engine. Also, professional technicians should be called if you detect an unusual smell coming out of your engine compartment.
  8. The air filter should be checked. The outside environment collects dust and other particles in the vehicle's filter. A dirty air filter causes your vehicle to run poorly. Replace your air filter regularly.
  9. Make sure you check the fan belt. Your vehicle's fanbel is what connects the engine and the transmission. If the fanbel breaks, your engine won't turn. Replacing the belt is simple. All you need to replace the belt is a screwdriver with pliers.
  10. Verify the radiator hoses. The radiatorhose carries water from your radiator to the engine. If the hose becomes damaged or cracked, hot liquid can be emitted onto the engine. To repair the leaky hose, all you need is a pair if needle-nosepliers.
  11. Be sure to inspect your windshield wipers. Windshield wipers use electricity to clean away snow and rain. If they stop functioning, they can leave streaks in your window glass. Simply change the washer oil to fix the problem.
  12. Check the battery cables. Batteries provide power to electrical systems inside your car. If you are replacing batteries, disconnect the negative cord first. Failure to do so can damage your alternator.
  13. Be sure to check your headlights. The headlights will illuminate the road ahead. Poor visibility can result if the headlights don't function properly. To check if the bulbs have gone out, you can inspect them.
  14. Check the lights. You can warn other drivers if you approach them at night. One that doesn't work could cause you to be distracted, and possibly lead to an injury.
  15. You should inspect your brakes. Before you have a collision, brakes slow down your car. You may lose control of your vehicle and crash if the brakes don't function properly.
  16. Check the oil regularly. Your engine will stay lubricated by the oil. It helps prevent metal parts from wearing out too quickly. It is recommended to change the oil each month.
